APRIL BOOK OF THE MONTH

The Gospels of Mary:
The Secret Tradition of Mary Magdalene, the Companion of Jesus
By Marvin Meyer and Esther A. DeBoer

One of the foremost scholars on Gnosticism now explores the fascinating and
often misinterpreted woman known as Mary Magdalene. Following the recent
whirl of interest in Mary Magdalene that was generated by The Da Vinci Code,
Marvin Meyer (The Ancient Mysteries) delves into the earliest texts available to
reveal a disciple of great spiritual maturity who was extremely influential in the
survival of Christianity. ~Gail Hudson

Tradition members to complete Le Sentier Cathares in the Languedoc in the
Autumn of 2008. More details will be available in upcoming newsletters.

News from the Carolinas:
Asheville
The Laconneau community is growing in Western North Carolina. Laconneau of
the Carolinas held the Magdalene Seminar Asheville on  March 7 & 8, in Black
Mountain, North Carolina. This was the first Laconneau event to be held in the
Asheville area. Twelve women from North Carolina, South Carolina, and
Tennessee participated in the seminar. They gave very positive feedback.  Many
thanks to Charlotte Kurtz for her gracious hospitality in hosting the seminar in
her home.

For those of you who missed the Magdalene Seminar in the Asheville area,
another one will be offered on Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17. There is also
a Level 1 class scheduled for the Asheville area on Sunday, May 18th. Thank you to Linda Dodds, who coordinated the Magdalene Seminar. Between now and the classes in May, she will be organizing Laconneau activities in the Asheville area.

Greenville

in Greenville and Chapel Hill. One circle a month will be held in Chapel Hill and
one will be held in Greenville. Please refer to the calendar for times and locations.

Georgia News:
The Atlanta Laconneau group visited the High Museum of Art to view the
exhibits "Georgia O'Keeffe and the Women of the Steiglitz Circle". The exhibit
explored these extraordinary liberated women artists of the turn of the century
who found their voices and defined the modernist women through their lives,
their photography and paintings. This was a profoundly inspiring and forceful
exhibit which expressed the feminine voice and her relationship to the world. We
saw many images which honored the Divine Feminine and touched us all very
deeply.

 Pennsylvania News:
Through regular group meditations, dinners, women’s circles, and films, we
continue to work hard to build a strong foundation for the Philadelphia circle,
one woman at a time. With our gatherings, we work to create space that is
welcoming and open to all women. Before we, as women, can make lasting
changes in both ourselves and our community, we must experience true trust
and comradeship.

Washington, DC News:
The Intergenerational weekend on March 15-16 was a great success. On Saturday
15, fourteen people, including four children, started with a private docent tour of
the Smithsonian American Art museum where we saw the 1896 magnificent Joan
of Arc triptych by William Fosdick. Our docent, Mia Boynton, went on to show
how the image of women in the gilded age was transformed from passive to active
by the early twentieth century. At Meridien Hill Park, we picnicked on falafel
under the statue of Joan of Arc, a copy of the one in front of Rheims Cathedral,
where Joan led the Dauphin to his coronation in 1429. We then adjourned to the
widescreen at Marge DuMond’s apartment to watch the great Ingrid Berman
playing Joan, and ended the day at Lorely Crew-Halici’s apartment with an authentic
medieval feast.  On Sunday we continued with a meditation and a lunch and
debate on the intergenerational conflict, its causes and resolutions. Besides our
local sisters from Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia, we were fortunate to
have guests from Toronto, Canada.
